Braintree Girls' Basketball Wins Division 1 State Championship

Braintree has won their third state title in five years!

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Last year, the Braintree High School girls' basketball team had to watch as Springfield Central celebrated their state championship. This year, the roles were reversed.

The Wamps returned to the top of the mountain that is Massachusetts high school basketball, beating the Golden Eagles 59-56 for the MIAA Division 1 championship. The title is Braintree's third in five years.

Braintree led for most of the game, but Springfield Central's quick streaks kept the Wamps on their heels. Late in the fourth quarter, Selenya Gonzalez tied the game for Springfield Central, but Rachel Tutkus' drive on the next possession gave Braintree a two-point lead.
