The Ben & Jerry's shop in Braintree at South Shore Place on Forbes Road is participating in the promotion, which runs from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Ben & Jerry's also has shops in Eastham, Hyannis, Cambridge, and Boston that are participating in the promotion, which started in 1979.

“It was our way of thanking everyone for all the love and support they showed us that first year of business in a renovated gas station in Burlington, Vt.,” the company said in a statement.
