Frustrated Over Conditions, Braintree Parent Posts Photos of Ross School Damage
Parent Lisa Howland-O'Connor hopes the photos encourages more residents to attend Monday's school committee meeting.
After weeks of discussions about the state of the Braintree schools at school committee meetings, one parent is using Facebook to show the damange in one local school.
This week, parent Lisa Howland-O’Connor posted photos of the Ross School featuring holes in the ceiling, mold, and deteriorating conditions.
“Millions in the bank and our schools look like this. Our children deserve so much more. Is this the Braintree way?” She said in the post on the Braintree School Facts and Future? Facebook page.

Howland-O’Connor said she hasn’t seen the damage first hand, but has talked to a dozen teachers about the school.
“My kids go to Highlands. But this is our community. So my reaction would be the same if those pictures came from our home school. No child or faculty member should have to deal with these conditions,” she told Braintree Patch.

The photos were part of an effort to speak up about the schools at the committee’s meeting on April 27. She added that her main concern is that the conditions could cause teachers and staff to leave the school district.
“Why would they want to work in this kind of environment? I don’t think we’ll be able to come back from it once it happens.
Other users have posted photos of other town buildings like the Daughtry Gym.
Howland-O’Connor has said she will at Monday’s meeting. The meeting agenda, scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in the Braintree High School Media Center includes a “space needs update” along with the meeting’s standard citizen’s input.
