Transition Team to Focus on Moving 5th Grade to Middle Schools
The team hopes to find the best way to move the fifth grade to the middle schools.

BRAINTREE, MA - A transition team will help decide the best way to move fifth grade to the Braintree middle schools.
Monday night, Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Fay-Beers discussed the makeup and goals of the committee. The team will consist of four fifth grade teachers; up to four sixth grade teachers; two guidance counselors, between six to eight parents, with one representing each elementary and middle school; the Hollis and Flaherty principals; two curriculum directors; and Fay-Beers as the chairperson.
Fay-Beers said the members of the team will have a chance to provide input on topics such as the building designs, scheduling, traditions, parent involvement, extracurricular options, and curriculum.

A parent communication asking for volunteers will be sent out by the PTOs, who will also submit the name of two applicants for the team. Interested parents should be aware the transition team is a two-year commitment with monthly meetings.
The team is part of the school district's effort to renovate the middle schools. As part of the proposal, the fifth grade would move to East and South Middle Schools. Both schools would be renovated and received additions.
