Both Braintree firefighters promoted in a ceremony at on Tuesday afternoon displayed professionalism and courage, Mayor Joseph Sullivan said. "You're called to duty every day, you're called to the task and we appreciate that." Steven G. Sawtelle, formerly a captain and hazmat officer, was promoted to Deputy Chief. He joined the force in March, 1982 after graduating with a bachelor's degree in management from Curry College. He was raised in Braintree and graduated BHS class of 1978. Sawtelle has a wife Lisa, two sons and a stepson. Joseph McLaughlin, formerly a private, was promoted to Lieutenant. He joined the force in July, 1989 after graduating from the Massachusetts Fire Academy and is currently working on a fire science degree. He is a BHS class of 1982 graduate. McLaughlin has a wife, Melissa, two sons and one daughter.
