It's Day One For New Braintree Superintendent

Incoming Braintree Superintendent Frank Hackett will start his new job today.

As students and teachers prepare to start another week of school in Braintree, it will represent a new era with the arrival of the town’s next superintendent.

Monday will be the first day for incoming Superintendent Frank Hackett, who was chosen to be the new head of schools by the Braintree School Committee over the summer.

While it will be Hackett’s first day at the helm, it will not be his first time in the school system. During a welcome reception held at Braintree High School Thursday, he said he spent seven days shadowing interim Superintendent Peter Kurzberg and meeting members of the school district.

“My impressions matched up well with what I thought I was getting into when I applied for the job,” Hackett said. “It’s a well-done system, a caring community, great student body, great parents, good committee, it’s really aligned with what I’m looking for and I’m excited about the opportunity.”

Chosen during the second search to replace the recently retired Maureen Murray, Hackett comes to Braintree after serving as the Pembroke superintendent for eight years. He has also served as a superintendent and an assistant superintendent for school districts in Maine, in addition to working as a principal and teacher.
