Julia Flaherty Running For Braintree Town Council
Julia Flaherty is running for one of Braintree's three open at-large town councilor seats.

BRAINTREE, MA — Julia Flaherty is running for one of the town's three open at-large town councilor seats in November's election. Flaherty has lived in Braintree since 2004 and previously served on the Braintree Integrated Preschool PTO and the School Advisory Board.
She is also active with her daughter's Girl Scout troop and volunteers with Braintree’s Neighbor Brigade and is a member of FRRACS (Fore River Residents Against the Compressor Station) and Moms Demand Action.
Commenting on why she’s running, Flaherty said, "I have decided to run for Town Council because it is clear to me that Braintree needs representatives who are committed to constituent outreach and who are responsive to the questions and concerns of our residents."

Flaherty acknowledged that with re-zoning and other large projects, Braintree is essentially deciding the future of what the town will look like. She said she believes the town needs to work together to strike the balance between being a major transportation hub with a strong retail base and protecting Braintree's green space and neighborhood feel.
"Braintree is about to embark on a significant conversation about what kind of town we want to be and how we’re going to get there in the next 10-20 years," she said. "In that process, it’s essential for residents to have a councilor who will not only listen to their point of view, but who will actively seek it out. I will be the kind of councilor who brings the conversation to the residents, not the kind who waits for the conversation to come to them."
