Man Sentenced For Killing Braintree Student In Hit-And-Run Crash

Darrell Young, 27, will serve three-four years in prison for killing Lucas Flint, 21, of Braintree, in a hit-and-run crash.

BRAINTREE, MA — A Holbrook man was sentenced to three-four years in state prison after being found guilty in a 2018 hit-and-run crash that killed a Braintree college student.

Darrell Young, 27, was convicted Wednesday of motor vehicle homicide and negligent driving in Norfolk Superior Court, said David Traub, a spokesman for the Norfolk County District Attorney's office.

Just before 1 a.m., on Dec. 15, 2018, officers found Lucas Flint, 21, on the side of the road suffering from serious injuries. Flint, a student at Emerson College, was rushed to South Shore Hospital, and then Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to police, a license plate and part of Young's car's front-end were found at the site of the crash. Police used the license plate to find Young's home, where he was arrested.

Traub said prosecutors asked that Yong receive a prison sentence of six-eight years, while defense attorney Kevin Reddington sought a two-year sentence with one year to be served.

Norfolk County Superior Court Judge Robert Cosgrove agreed to delay the start of the sentence by a week, because Young's mother is in the hospital. Prosecutors are seeking to revoke the stay after learning Yong's tracking device was not transmitting for several hours due to a lack of power, Traub said. A hearing on the request was scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
