Mayor Aims To Add Nearly A Dozen Police Officers This Year

Mayor Joseph Sullivan announced the initiative to increase staffing levels at Wednesday's State of Braintree address.

BRAINTREE, MA — Expect to see more police officers around town in the near future.

Mayor Joseph Sullivan announced during his State of Braintree address Wednesday that he plans to add 11 officers to the police department this year as part of an initiative to increase staffing levels.

“Our goal this year and beyond is to achieve the superior standard of national accreditation and to continue to support those who take the oath to serve and protect,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan said the fire department is fully staffed and they will soon begin work on renovation the main fire station, after already working on some of the other stations around town.

The renovation is one of the new public projects happening in Braintree. On the school front, Sullivan noted that they are about to start their most ambitious school project with the addition-renovation projects at both middle schools. Work at East Middle School is expected to start this year, with South Middle School to follow.

The project will bring the schools up to date and bring the fifth grade to the middle school level.

Another anticipated project, the Petersen Pool/Rink Complex, is expected to break ground this summer.
