Meet the New Liberty and Ross School Principals

Tara Boening has accepted the position of principal at the Liberty School and Francis McGourty will become the new Ross School head.

BRAINTREE, MA - Two elementary schools in Braintree are getting new principals.

Incoming Liberty and Ross School principals Tara Boening and Francis McCourty were recently introduced to the Braintree School Committee. Below are the backgrounds for the administrators:

A graduate of SUNY at Stony Brook, Boening began her career as a teacher in Brooklyn, N.Y. During this time, she obtained her master's degree in elementary education from Molloy College. In 2004, she became a teacher in Mattapoisett, where she stayed until June 2013. From July 2013 to June 2016, Boening was the assistant principal of Robinson Elementary School in Mansfield.

Boening holds a doctorate degree in leadership and curriculum from Northeastern University. She resides in Braintree.

Francis McGourty - Ross School

After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from UMass Boston in 1993, McGourty returned to school in 2005 and earned his master's degree in education with an emphasis in literacy and language from Framingham State University in 2009. In the classroom, McGourty worked as a fifth grade teacher for the Holliston Public Schools from July 2004 until June 2013. After leaving Holliston, he became the assistant principal of Pine Hill Elementary School in Sherborn.

McCourty has done graduate coursework in educational administration at Boston University. He resides in Walpole.
