Modular Classrooms Coming To South Middle School
The two classroom are being added to address space issues at the school.

BRAINTREE, MA — With the middle schools dealing with a space crunch, town officials hope that two modular classrooms at one of the schools can help open up some space.
Tuesday night, the Braintree Town Council was presented with a motion to purchase the two extra classrooms for $434,000.
"As we prepare for the upcoming school year, the school department has notified us of a need for two additional classrooms at the South Middle School. This request is to add classrooms at South Middle School is driven by the high number of fifth grade students matriculating to six grade in September of 2017. To meet this current need, it was determined that the best solution is to add two modular classrooms which will be purchased through our capital plan. When the South Middle School addition project is complete, these two modular classrooms can be moved to another school if needed," Mayor Joseph Sullivan said in a memo to the town council.

The classrooms will remain until the completion of the South Middle School renovation project. Like the East Middle School project, the South project calls for a renovation and expansion that moves fifth grade to the school. The schools will be split up into two academies with fifth and sixth grade in one part of the school and seventh and eighth grade in the other.
