New Stats: Opioid Deaths in Braintree Increase

BRAINTREE, MA - The state's Department of Public Health has released new data on opioid deaths in Massachusetts.

During 2015, Braintree had nine confirmed deaths caused by an opioid overdose. The total is an increase from last year's total of seven. In 2013, there were three confirmed deaths.

In Norfolk County, deaths have increased from 124 in 2014 to 144 last year. Since 2000, there have been an estimated 976 deaths from opioids.

Middlesex County has seen the most deaths on a county level with 293 last year and 1,966 since 2000.

The data doesn't include the amount of Narcan used or the number of overdoses reversed through using the life-saving medicine.
