Petersen Pool Aiming for Summer Groundbreaking

Meetings with the Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Board have been scheduled.

It only took about five decades but the timeline has been set for the Petersen Pool public hearings.

Mayor Joseph Sullivan told the Braintree School Committee Monday night that the developer is set to meet with the Zoning Board of Appeals on Feb. 23, with a Planning Board meeting scheduled on March 8.

District 1 Councilor Charles Kokoros plans on holding a community meeting for the project, according to Sullivan.

“There are some questions associated with infrastructure, water, sewer, parking, and traffic we need to address and that’s part of the public hearing process,” Sullivan said.

If all remains on schedule, the groundbreaking for the 154,000-square-foot building will take place this summer.

Petersen Pool is estimated to cost $19-22 million, with the town’s only contribution coming from the Petersen Pool Fund.

The complex is set to be constructed on six acres of land at Braintree High School and will include a pool, two hockey rinks, and an indoor practice area.
