UPDATE (9:50 p.m.) - Braintree and state police have issued an Amber Alert for two children from Braintree whose father allegedly kidnapped them Monday afternoon from their foster home.

John T. Lockwood, 54, with a last known address at a Foxboro hotel, drove off with the children in a brown, 2005 BMW 525i with Massachusetts registration 478RF8, Police Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.

Several neighbors told police that they heard a commotion at around 4:30 p.m. and came outside to see Lockwood leaving with his children, a boy and girls. Jenkins said he would not specify the location of the foster home.

Police said Lockwood forcibly took his son Patrick, an 8-year-old Asian male whose full name is My Tri Nguyen, and ordered his daughter Sarah, a 10-year-old Asian female whose full name is Tien Nhu My Nguyen, into the car. Patrick's foster mother tried to stop Lockwood from taking Patrick but failed in a tug-of-war for custody, Jenkins said.

Jenkins described Patrick as last seen wearing blue jean shorts and a neon yellow T-shirt and Sarah wearing blue jean shorts and a blue and purple T-shirt with a mermaid on the front. Photographs of both children and Lockwood are attached to this article.

Lockwood checked out of the Foxboro hotel and his whereabouts are unknown, Jenkins said. Local and state police initially issued a "Be on the Lookout" or BOLO for Lockwood, and subsequently activated the Amber Alert, according to a press release from state police Monday evening.
