Police Open Doors to Braintree HQ to Show Nearly $1 Million in Renovations

The Braintree Police Station is located at 282 Union St.

Local families, residents and officials turned out on Saturday, March 5 to check out the new-and-improved home of the , which recently completed $900,000 in station upgrades and is looking forward to hundreds of thousands in additional work.

A large portion of the renovation was invisible to visitors on Saturday, with a much-needed heating, ventilation and air conditioning system upgrade providing precise controls and a warmer environment. The front lobby, records room, training center, detective's office and communications hub – among other areas – were modernized as well.

"It's a friendly place now," Police Chief Paul Frazier said. "A much cleaner environment for us."

An entirely new station would have cost approximately $8 million to $10 million, Frazier said, whereas this project will top out at a little over $1 million and provide substantial improvements. The voted for another $355,000 on top of the $900,000 last month as part of .

"We're really pleased to be able to improve the climate around here," Mayor Joseph Sullivan said on Saturday, addressing a group of residents, police and officials in the training center. "We appreciate your work. We appreciate the obligation you've taken on."
