Portland Confirms Braintree's Dubois As Next Police Chief

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree Police Chief Mark Dubois is heading to Maine before the end of the summer.

Dubois was unanimously approved as the next police chief by the Portland City Council during a Monday meeting. This comes after Portland City Manager Danielle West announced on Friday that she selected Dubois as the city's next police chief.

Dubois has been the chief in Braintree since 2019 and served as chief in Maynard, Mass. for seven years prior. He marks the first permanent chief for Portland since 2021.

The city announced he will earn $165,000 annually.

“I’m excited to have Mark join the Portland Police Department and our City leadership team,” said City Manager Danielle West.

“Mark has demonstrated a commitment to instilling trust, spurring collaboration, and communicating and working with diverse communities. He has a deep understanding of the law and a passion for contributing to the advancement of his profession. I’d like to thank the City staff and community leaders who provided me with invaluable feedback during my decision making process.”

Following the meeting, Dubois gave an interview to Maine's Total Coverage. In that interview, he stated that communication and transparency would be tenants of his department.
