Randolph Man Assaults Braintree Officer During Arrest: PD

Police said the suspect tried running away, but when police blocked him off, the suspect struck the officer.

BRAINTREE, MA — Police said a Randolph man attacked two officers, while police tried to arrest the man on drug and trespassing charges.

Lance Alford, 48, was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, trespassing, resisting arrest, and possession of a class A and B substances.

On Monday morning, police told the Patriot Ledger they saw a car trespassing in the Sunset Lake parking lot. Police said they approached the car, questioned Alford and said a small bag of drugs fell out of his sock when he tried finding his license for the officers. According to police, Alford tried running away when police asked him to get outside his car. One of the officers blocked him, which is when he struck an officer, police told the Patriot Ledger. He continued fighting until police were able to handcuff him, officers said. The officers sustained minor injuries.

Police told the Patriot Ledger they found a knife on the ground nearby, which Alford admitted was his. A second bag of drugs was also found in Alford's sock. Police said one bag contained heroin and the other was cocaine.

Braintree Police did not immediately return Patch's request for comment.
