Remember These Old Braintree Businesses?

Bickford's at the Rotary, Jimbo's at Five Corners, paying 25 cents to see a double feature at the Braintree Theater, hitting Howard Johnson's at 2 a.m., Pat's Variety Store, Grossman's Lumber, Fasano's Diner, The Ground Round, Valley's Restaurant, the old KFC where Viola's was on Route 37.

Memories of these Braintree restaurants and stores were among the more than 200 recently shared on Braintree Patch's Facebook page.

Whether giving directions based on where a place used to be or just reminiscing, like most New Englanders Braintree-ites are fond of picturing an old haunt and their time spent there grabbing a bite, watching a movie or loitering as a teenager.

"I always talk to my kids about video corner (where braintree co op loan office) is considering kids don't even know what videos are nevermind renting and always the candy store that was where yogurt bar is." wrote Siobhan Rosa Hearn

Bill McCarthy drops a "preliminary" list:

"Valleys, LeBithteque, Hilltop, Santys, Olympian Diner, Bickfords, may garden, JL Hammets, Braintree Pharmacy, Long John Silver, Asmont Discount, Happy Chef, Pizza Chef, Norfolk Liquors, Liggett Rexal, Color Mart, grossmans, carvel, Elihu white nursing home, Braintree Landing, Chet's, Helen's restaurant, mug n muffin, Quintree mall, purity supreme, kings, caldor, lechemere, Marian's shoes (best "rejects" in town). Just off the top of my head."

Robin Moulton Ronca remembers, "Jimmys, That little Diner that used be right next to New England House of Pizza. I think it moved to Weymouth. It was cute looking from the outside too. also the Ground Round near the High School."

Another Jimmy's fan, Jason Shampine: "Jimmys pizza. They had the best bbq steak and cheese ive ever had in my 32 years. I would do anything for one more of those."
