Roof Damage Means No School At Ross, South Middle Schools
Photos show large pieces of the Ross School roof laying against the side of the building.
BRAINTREE, MA — Two schools suffered substantial damage during Friday's storm and they will be closed Monday.
The Braintree Public Schools announced Saturday night that students at Ross Elementary School and South Middle School will not have class Monday due to the damage to schools' roofs.
Photos from the Ross School show that parts of the roof were ripped away and are now laying against the school. Braintree Police said Friday night that chunks of the Ross School roof were falling off and landing on the street.

Other schools in the district experienced minor water infiltration mostly due to the wind-driven rain, but those issues will be remedied by the end of the weekend, according to Superintendent Frank Hackett.
A roofing contractor and a structural engineer will be at both schools Sunday. The damaged sections of both roofs will be removed, secured, and weatherized, Hackett announced. Once the structural evaluation is complete, school officials will be able to determined the next steps.

Additional days of school may be canceled, but that can't be determined until the engineer and contractor look at the roofs.
