BRAINTREE, MA — School Committee chair Lisa Fiske Heger has announced she is running to be Braintree's second ever mayor. Mayor Joseph Sullivan announced last month he wasn't seeking re-election, leaving November's race wide-open.

Heger said she first got involved in town government after volunteering at her children's schools inspired her to run for Town Meeting representative. Most recently, she's served on the Braintree School Committee the last eight years, serving as chair the last four.

Heger currently works as the assistant vice president for the financial company, State Street Corporation. She said she hopes to combine her background in town government and 30 years of experience in the private sector to lead Braintree to "continued prosperity."

Heger broke down her mayoral platform into an acronym — TEAM, which stands for transparency, environment, appreciation, and management. Her platform includes improving transparency in town government, ensuring responsible financial management, improving schools and infrastructure, prioritizing environmental sustainability, encouraging cultural diversity and the inclusion of those with special needs and disabilities within the community.

"We have a great community that is growing and changing," Heger said. "As a candidate for mayor, I plan to work with residents and town officials to harness that change and use it to propel us in a positive direction. "We can make Braintree better than ever. We’re in this together."
