School Committee Member Announces Bid For Braintree Town Council Seat

David Ringius announced Tuesday that he will run for District 5 councilor.

BRAINTREE, MA — A member of the Braintree School Committee is throwing his hat into the race for town council.

David Ringius announced Tuesday that he will run for District 5 councilor. The seat is currently held by Mike Owens, who recently announced that he will not seek re-election.

The Braintree native has been a member of the school committee since 2008. His last run for town council came in 2015 when he finished fourth in a race for three at-large seats.

“As the District 5 Councilor, I would strive to be mindful of the proud history and tradition of Braintree, while pushing our town forward in terms of positive growth and diversification of our local economy, all the while enhancing the safety of our town, and making our community one that we can all continue to be proud to call our home,” Ringius said in his announcement.

Ringius said he hopes to make an impact in the areas of public safety and the local economy while continuing work towards enhancing South Braintree Square and the Ivory Street Corridor.

During his time on the school committee, he served as the chairperson from January 2014-January 2016. He has also been a member of several subcommittees including the Braintree Alliance for a Safe and Healthy Youth and the 2015 Superintendent Search Committee. He also led a subcommittee that addressed Braintree High’s Chemical Health Policy, as well as one that dealt with Opiate and Drug Education/Prevention Efforts in the Braintree Public Schools.

Ringius works as an Assistant District Attorney for the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office.
