Snapchat Recorded Assault In Braintree, 5 Teens Charged: Video

The Braintree boy's mother said she believes the attacks were racially motivated.

BRAINTREE, MA — Five teens were arrested after police said the group assaulted a 13-year-old Braintree boy and recorded it on Snapchat. The Braintree boy's mother said she believes the attacks were racially motivated.

Two 13-year-old girls, one from Braintree and another from Newton, were charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Two boys from Stoughton, 13 and 15, and another 15-year-old boy from Braintree, face charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery. Police did not release the suspects' identities because of their age.

Police told the Patriot Ledger the boy was attacked on Jan. 12 after he went outside to greet the two girls, who stopped by to see him. The boy's mother told police the girls, along with the three other teens, grabbed her son, knocked him to the ground and started kicking him. The assault was recorded on Snapchat.

The mother told the Patriot Ledger she believes her son was attacked because he's black. She said she found texts on her son's phone from unknown numbers that included racial slurs and believes they are related to the assault. Police told WHDH the investigation shows the fight was started because of a relationship issue.
