South Shore Couple Remembered Among Those Killed In Copter Crash: Reports

A sightseeing helicopter crashed last week in Hawaii, and two of the victims were from Massachusetts. They're now being remembered.

SOUTH SHORE, MA — The news of a deadly helicopter crash in Hawaii has been felt especially hard in Scituate and surrounding Bay State communities.

Patrick “P.J.” Haskell, 59, and his wife Margaret Rimmler, 65, were onboard the sightseeing copter that went down Thursday.

The Scituate residents were in the Aloha State after P.J. Haskell retired from his insurance business, Haskell Insurance Agency, based in Needham. P.J. had run the 60-plus-year-old company with his father, George.

“Their office at 199 Chestnut St. was a familiar local presence, where Patrick could often be seen working late into the evening,” a statement from the Charles River Regional Chamber of Commerce said.

The helicopter crashed near a remote beach off the Hawaiian island of Kauai, killing the couple and one other person. The area’s geography of tall seaside cliffs and sharp mountain ridges can make for turbulent air and hazardous flying conditions, experts have said.
