State of the Art Medical Robot Invades South Shore Plaza Saturday
Good Samaritan Medical Center, a member of Steward Health Care, is an acute-care hospital providing comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to Brockton and 22 neighboring communities.

Surgeons from Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton will bring a robot to the South Shore Plaza this Saturday that allows them to perform minimally invasive women’s health and general surgery.
The hospital installed the robot in July 2012, becoming one of the first hospitals in Southeast Massachusetts to perform da Vinci Robotic Surgery, according to a press release from the Plaza.
Plaza visitors, including children, are invited to "operate" the robot using a simulator and participate in several games. The simulator will score participants based on:

More about the robot:
"The da Vinci system is a sophisticated surgical platform designed to facilitate complex procedures using a minimally invasive approach. The surgeon controls the da Vinci system, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the body. Though it is often called a “robot,” the da Vinci system cannot act on its own - surgery is performed 100% by the physician.
"By providing surgeons with superior vision, enhanced dexterity, greater precision and ergonomic comfort, the da Vinci surgical system makes it possible for more surgeons to perform minimally invasive procedures involving complex and delicate dissection or reconstruction."
