Survivor Of 2010 Amy Bishop Shooting Dies

Dr. Joseph 'Joe' Leahy passed away suddenly in his Madison, Alabama home on Oct. 15.

One of the survivors of the Amy Bishop shooting in Alabama has died seven years since the fatal shooting.

Dr. Joseph 'Joe' Leahy passed away suddenly in his Madison, Alabama home on Oct. 15, according to his obituary. The Huntsville Times reported that the cause of death was a heart attack.

In 2010, Leahy was shot in the head by Bishop, a Braintree native. A professor at the University of Alabama at Huntsville, Bishop killed three professors and wounded three others. She is currently serving a life-sentence in an Alabama prison.

John Frericks of Columbus, Ohio, a close friend of Leahy's, said he believed that the death was connected to the shooting.

Leahy leaves behind his parents; wife, Virginia; children, Keith and Stephen; siblings, Paul (Lisa) Leahy, and Lisa (Mark) Scherer. He was preceded in death by his nephew and godson, Benjamin Leahy Scherer, and his father-in-law, Meletus E Warnecke.
