Thai Restaurant Replacing Braintree Jade

The restaurant is scheduled to open by early October.

A Thai restaurant will open within the next few weeks at the former location of Braintree Jade at 373 Washington St. in Braintree Square.

Owner Wei Chen purchased the building from the owners of Braintree Jade last month and was granted a food license Tuesday by the Board of License Commissioners, contingent on fire suppression updates and planning department conditions.

Chen said he will address those issues immediately and plans to open Thai Chili Basil by early October. He owns a restaurant in Melrose and is close to opening another in Brookline. Chen's family owns a restaurant in Ipswich.

Sweet and spicy Thai food will replace the Chinese food offered at Braintree Jade. That restaurant closed sometime in early July.
