A Bridgewater resident has been duped by a grifter claiming to be Brady, police say.

BRIDGEWATER, MA — Beware if you get a call from the GOAT.

A Bridgewater resident has been recently scammed by a fraudster posing as former New England Patriots superstar Tom Brady, a family member told police.

The resident has been sending gift cards to the individual claiming to be Brady, Bridgewater police said in a social media post Monday.

The family member reported the generosity March 23 and was told it was likely in response to fraud. Police provided guidance on how to stop the payments from continuing.

Imposter scams like this have been growing, driven by the epidemic of identity theft, the Federal Trade Commission has said.

There were 280,000 reports of such scams nationwide during the third quarter of 2025, making impersonation ploys the second-most common form of fraud, according to the FTC. The numbers have been increasing annually by double-digit percentages.

Further details about the gift-card scheme, including the amount of money involved and the identity of the resident, were unavailable.

Attempts to reach Tom Brady for comment on the matter were not successful.
