“It’s been a long time. I’m looking at 15 years where we’ve been trying to do something. This is a golden opportunity,” Councilor Kokoros said.

Prior to the vote, Mayor Joseph Sullivan implored the council to vote for the proposal to try to drive development to the area, calling the plan a pragmatic approach to looking at the value of the parking lot and how it can be used for transit orient development.

What we need is residents, retail, and restaurants. If we can put those 3 Rs together I think we can have a successful revitalization landing and assist Weymouth,” Sullivan said.

Councilor Owens said he was hesitant to vote initially due to a lack of information, but said he was impressed by the way the developer was able to answer all his questions.

Wit the lot sale approved, the next step for the town is seeing if business will fill up many of the empty storefronts in the area.

“I remember seven years ago, one of my first events was getting up in front of a group of business and talking about redevelopment of the landing and trying to stay positive. Now, as other members have stated this is something we need down in the landing area. Lets put it out there and see what we get back as a proposal,” Council President Thomas Bowes said.
