Two Arrested At Braintree Village On Gun, Drug Charges

Police allegedly found a loaded .380 semiautomatic pistol, 11 grams of crack cocaine and some marijuana.

BRAINTREE, MA — Two people were taken into custody on gun and weapon charges, police said.

On Jan. 17 at about 2 a.m., an officer patrolling Braintree Village discovered an occupied vehicle with two occupants acting in a suspicious manner.. During the encounter, the officer allegedly observed the handle of what appeared to be a firearm sticking out from underneath the drivers seat. Upon discovery of the gun, the operator fled, at which time the passenger, identified Jason Mandell was taken into custody, according to the Braintree Police Department.

A loaded .380 semiautomatic pistol, 11 grams of crack cocaine and some marijuana were found in the car. A K9 search was unable to locate the driver and an arrest warrant was issued to Jacob Rodriguez for firearms and narcotics offenses.

Rodriguez turned himself in Wednesday afternoon and arraigned Thursday at Quincy District Court.

Police say the office likely stopped a drug transaction.
