The fire was found to have spread from the basement to the third floor after firefighters believed it had been doused, according to WHDH.
BROCKTON, MA — Nine people have been displaced after a Brockton house fire reignited after it was thought to be extinguished Thursday evening, WHDH reported Friday morning.
The fire was first reported in the basement of a home on Bartlett Street around 8 p.m. Thursday, but was found to have spread onto the third floor after firefighters believed it had been doused, according to the outlet.
As of 5:30 a.m. Friday, the main fire is out, but firefighters are staying at the home to ensure there aren't any additional hot spots, according to WHDH.

The fire was sparked from lithium-ion batteries in the basement, and spread "through the vaporization of thermal run away in the batteries," Chief Brian Nardelli of the Brockton Fire Department told Patch Friday morning, adding that the department removed close to 40 batteries from the basement.
"Thermal run away is very common in this type of battery, Chief Nardelli said. "There are instances where fires have reignited days after the fire was extinguished."
