BROCKTON, MA - Three students from Brockton were sent to the hospital Tuesday after ingesting liquid nicotine for an e-cigarette.
Tuesday morning, a student from Davis Elementary School brought the liquid on the bus and shared it with two other students, according to Brockton School Superintendent Kathleen Smith.

Police tell WHDH that an 11-year-old girl found the liquid nicotine at home, mistaking it for candy. The girl shared it with two of her friends, who all went to the nurse feeling ill when they arrived at school.
The students’ parents brought them to the hospital to be checked, as a precaution, and the substance was turned over to medical personnel.

At no time were any other students in danger, according to Smith.
"We caution parents to be vigilant and securely store away all substances in the home that could be dangerous and easily accessed by children, as we all also continue to educate children about the importance of health and wellbeing," she said.
According to the Center for Disease Control, the most common side effects from exposure to liquid nicotine include vomiting, nausea, and eye irritation. An intravenous injection of the liquid can result in death.
