Brockton Hospital Fire Knocked Down, Patients Evacuated

BROCKTON, MA — Brockton Hospital is being evacuated due to a large fire Tuesday morning, which has since been knocked down, the Brockton Emergency Management Agency wrote in a tweet.

Brockton Fire wrote in a tweet just after 9 a.m. that they were on the scene of a 4-alarm fire at the hospital. The fire was eventually upgraded to a tenth alarm when it was knocked down.

Speaking to reporters at a news conference, Brockton Fire Chief Nardelli said that the fire started in the basement transformer room around 7 a.m., forcing them to cut power to the entire building.

Nearly 200 patients were inside when the fire began, according to Nardelli.

Nardelli added that the fire has been nearly extinguished, with a few hot spots remaining.

More than 30 ambulances are on the scene assisting with evacuations, Brockton Fire wrote in a tweet.

The department warned people to avoid the area.
