Brockton Police Chase Leads To Car Theft, Break-In Arrests

Two men charged with breaking into a repair shop and stealing a car Thursday night are being investigated for other break-ins in the city.

BROCKTON, MA — A police car chase and ensuing foot pursuit led to the arrest of two men on car theft and break-in charges on Thursday night. Brockton police said Antonio Mendes, 31, and Michel Depina-Ledo, 27, were charged in the break-in of the shop on Montello Avenue where the car was stolen earlier in the day.

Police said that about 9:40 Thursday night a man waved down a Brockton police officer and told her there was a stolen car behind Defto's Liquors. The Honda Accord was seen taking a left on Main Street, but when the officer attempted to stop the car it accelerated and sped away. A pursuit followed with the car behind stopped on West Chestnut Street with other officers responding.

Police said the passenger got out of the Accord and fled on foot, while the driver gave a false name at the scene before being identified as Mendes. Police said Depina-Ledo was soon found on Tremont Street. Police said the suspects were wanted in connection to a break-in at Jose Auto Repair hours earlier.
