Brockton Recovers From 'Major' Water Main Break

Service and travel on Quincy Street and Crescent Street was disrupted from Friday into Sunday morning.

BROCKTON, MA — A ruptured water main at the intersection of Crescent Street and Quincy Street in Brockton led to two days of travels delays water service disruption this weekend. The rupture was detected on Friday with water service restored to the east side of Quincy Street Sunday morning as the Brockton Department of Public Works continued to repair the damage to the road.

Brockton officials thanked the DPW, Brockton police, Brockton fire and Brockton Department of Emergency Management for working "diligently and collaboratively on this major water issue."

About 50 homes were affected in the east part of the city during the disruption. Officials said on Friday at some residents may experience discoloration and low water pressure during the repairs, but on Saturday the main had to be shut down as crews worked throughout the day on repairs.

While officials said on Saturday they could not provide a timetable for repairs, but Sunday morning they said they expected full service be restored by 8 a.m. with lingering travel delays due to road repair.
