Brockton's Tent City is No More

The area was destroyed Monday morning.

Brockton, MA – The decades-old Tent City is no more after city officials removed the remaining residents of the area

Monday, Mayor Bill Carpenter announced that the makeshift camp has been destroyed, citing several safety concerns, recent fires, and health issues.

Last Tuesday, police at the camp arrested three people for outstanding warrants. A code enforcement officer at the site also found propane tanks, hypodermic needles, and human waste. About 75-80 residents were living in 16 encampments, Carpenter said.

Police have been more active in the area as of late. On June 18, police seized about 25 propane tanks located near two fires.

At 6 a.m. Monday morning, the remaining nine people at the camp were removed. One accepted relocation assistance while two more entered the Champion Program to battle addiction. 18 more gas tanks were found, along with a gas generator and 200 improperly disposed hypodermic needles.
