Car Catches Fire At Brockton Gas Station's Grand Opening

A car fire shut down the grand opening of the Petro Save gas station in Brockton. The fire set a child's shoe ablaze.

BROCKTON, MA — A car caught fire outside a gas station during its grand opening, according to fire officials. Around 1:45 p.m. Monday, the fire broke out while a woman was pumping gas and overfilled the car at Petro Save on North Main Street, fire officials told WHDH. The gasoline spilled beneath the car, engulfed it in flames, and set a child's shoe ablaze.

Employees told the Boston Globe they tried using extinguishers to put the fire out, but they weren't enough. They turned on the emergency fire suppression system which filled engulfed the entire property in snow-like chemicals. Firefighters then extinguished what was left of the fire.

Fire officials said no one was injured during the fire. It's not clear when the gas station will be able to reopen.
