Brockton Officials On Edge After Spike In Coronavirus Cases

Despite the increase, the Brockton school committee plans to begin discussing a return to in-person learning.

BROCKTON, MA — The Brockton school committee was scheduled to discuss the resumption of in-person learning when it meets Tuesday.

The city had 153 active cases as of Monday, after the number had hovered in the 90s for several consecutive weeks. According to the Brockton Enterprise, which first reported this story, school officials have not seen cases among students, prompting Tuesday's discussion on a possible return to in-person learning.

Brockton will have to leave the high-risk, or red, category before it can begin offering in-person classes. Since the pandemic started in March, there have been 4,868 confirmed coronavirus cases and 290 reported COVID-19 deaths in Brockton.
