BROCKTON, MA — The Brockton Police Department, in partnership with the mayor's office and Brewster EMS, announced a prescription drug take back day. The day gives residents a chance to get rid of their unwanted prescriptions safely, preventing the drugs from contributing to the opioid addiction epidemic.

Police said they also hope the collection keeps these drugs out of the hands of children. According to the D.E.A.'s website, "Each day, approximately, 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet."

Residents can bring any unwanted prescription drugs to the community room of the Roosevelt Heights apartments from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 24. The community room is located at 152 Arthur Paquin Way.
