BROCKTON, MA — Father Bill's & MainSpring provided about 700 Thanksgiving meals to those in need this past week. Thanksgiving meals were hosted in Brockton and Quincy, and hand delivered to individuals and families throughout the South Shore.

About 400 people attended the community meals open to the public. The Brockton Thanksgiving was held into the MainSpring House and the Quincy Thanksgiving was held at the Christ Episcopal Church. About 300 more meals were delivered to families who were unable to get to the community meals.

"Today is one of the most important days of the year for Father Bill's & MainSpring," John Yazwinski, FBMS President & CEO, said. "There are many people in our community who would otherwise spend the holiday alone or who don’t have enough money to prepare a meal for themselves or their families."

More than 150 volunteers took time out of their Thanksgiving to help those who could use an extra hand this year. There were also private Thanksgiving dinners for the residents of Montello Welcome Home Again, Jack's Place, and Jeff's Place — FBMS-owned properties in Brockton that provide permanent supportive housing to formerly homeless individuals and veterans. On Wednesday, several volunteers decorated the community rooms at these properties, helping create a more festive atmosphere for Thursday's meals.

The meals included all of the traditional Thanksgiving fixings, including turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, squash, green beans and pie.
