Hanson Commuter Rail Caught Fire and Evacuated: Delays Caused

A fire inside the engine of a train headed to Boston caused delays on the Kingston/Plymouth Commuter Rail line. The train was evacuated.

HANSON, MA — A fire inside the engine of a Commuter Rail Train caused delays in Thursday's morning commute.

Around 6:55 a.m., firefighters were called to the train station on Main Street for a fire on a train that was making its way into Boston.

The fire was put out and no one was hurt, according to Hanson Police Chief Michael Miksch.

According to an MBTA statement, a turbocharger malfunctioned, causing some engine oil to be exposed to extremely high temperatures. All passengers were transferred to another train.
