Massachusetts addiction rehab penalized $1.15M for unpaid labor program (bostonherald.com) — A Brockton-based addiction rehabilitation program, Adult & Teen Challenge Northeast, has been ordered to pay $1.15 million after state investigators found participants in its Brockton and Worcester men's programs performed extensive unpaid labor. The Massachusetts attorney general says required work unrelated to treatment must be paid at least minimum wage, while the organization disputes the findings and plans to contest the citations.

Brockton Students Beat the Odds to Win National Drone Competition (dronelife.com) — Brockton High School students have captured first place at the 2026 National STEM-ED Aerospace Robotics Competition, beating teams from wealthier districts nationwide. Supported by local nonprofit Empower Yourself and partners like MIT, Brockton's middle and high school teams overcame funding and resource gaps to excel in drone design, coding, and flying on the national stage.

Brockton music program gives kids a spark and a boost (wbur.org) — A Brockton-based music educator has built Rose Conservatory into the city's first youth orchestra, giving local kids intensive, low-cost strings training, tutoring, meals, and family support. The program now serves more than 50 Brockton-area students, emphasizes social justice and community resources, and is expanding its curriculum this fall to keep older teens engaged in music and personal growth.

(enterprisenews.com) — Brockton residents can soon pick up limited-edition SpongeBob and One Piece Happy Meal toys at local McDonald's locations on North Pearl, Crescent, Belmont, and North Montello streets starting Sept. 15. The nationwide promotion features 15 character-mashup toys and runs for a limited time, giving local families a new reason to stop by nearby restaurants.
