QUINCY, MA — State Sen. Michael Brady (D-Brockton) will avoid trial after accepting a plea deal in his Weymouth drunken driving case. Brady admitted prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him and will pay fines, lose his license for 45 days, and enter an alcohol education program, the Norfolk County District Attorney's office said.

In March 2018, Brady was charged with operating under the influence after a witness called police and reported Brady swerving across lanes on Interstate 93. Police said Brady exited towards Route 3 before getting off the highway onto Route 18 in Weymouth. According to Weymouth police, Brady swerved across two lanes of traffic, almost ending up in the parking lot of a liquor store.

Following the charges, Brady pleaded not guilty and issued an apology.

"I want to apologize to the Weymouth Police, my constituents, my friends and colleagues in the Legislature for any embarrassment and distraction that this incident causes. I know that as a Senator, I am held to a higher standard, and I will abide by the advice of my counsel as this matter is adjudicated by our judiciary. I am grateful for the fairness, integrity and transparency of that process," Brady said in a statement released to State House News.
