BROOKLINE, MA — Residents are planning to gather at Coolidge Corner this Saturday for a peaceful protest demonstration against President Donald Trump and his administration.
The weekly event is organized by Indivisible Activist Evenings, Brookline PAX, and Speak Out, Seniors. The Brookline Rally for Democracy is scheduled to take place on the corner of Beacon Street and Harvard Street at 1 p.m. According to the organizers, the event is meant to advocate for immigrant rights, free speech, healthcare access, and preservation of society for future generations.
We choose empathy over cruelty, peace over violence, and hope over fear,” the organizers said in a statement. “Our rallies are peaceful, spirited, and uplifting. A chance to connect, recharge, and stand up for what matters. Bring your friends, your voice, and your sign.”
Some of the actions taken by the Trump administration that have directly impacted Massachusetts include the detainment of Tufts Graduate student Rumesya Ozturk earlier this year by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, financial punishments placed on Harvard University in the midst of an ideological battle between the President and University, and a rise in gas prices due to the war with Iran that began in March.
Activist Evenings Brookline is a local branch of the Indivisible Mass Coalition. Brookline PAX is a local progressive political organization that is most known for annually endorsing candidates ahead of the town’s election. Speak Out, Seniors is credited with being the original driving force behind the regular rallies last spring, and has simultaneously expanded to welcome people of all ages beyond just its namesake age group.
The rally is open to the public and American Disability Association Accessible. In the event of inclement weather, attendees are being asked to use their own judgement as to whether or not to attend.
“We’ll continue for as long as it takes, one rally at a time,” the organizers said in a statement.
