Brookline Resident Returns To Lead Boston Arts Academy Foundation

BROOKLINE, MA — Resident Laura Alpert has rejoined the Boston Arts Academy Foundation as its new chief advancement and communications officer, returning to the organization after previously serving in a leadership role there from 2018 to 2022.

The foundation announced Alpert’s appointment this week, saying her return reflects the organization’s continued focus on experienced leadership as it supports students at Boston Arts Academy, the city’s only public high school for the visual and performing arts.

In her new role, Alpert will oversee revenue growth, external partnerships, and communications efforts related to the foundation’s philanthropic mission.

Before rejoining the Boston Arts Academy Foundation, Alpert served as chief advancement officer at MAB Community Services in Brookline from February 2022 through February 2026. During that time, she remained connected to Boston Arts Academy as both a donor and advisory council member.

“Coming back to this caring community feels like coming home,” Alpert said. “We are each inspired to invest in Boston Arts Academy’s creative and innovative students and alumni.”

The appointment also marks the third time Alpert has worked alongside Boston Arts Academy Foundation President and CEO Denella J. Clark. In addition to her previous role with the foundation, Alpert also collaborated with Clark in 1999 on “Steppin’ Out,” The Dimock Center’s inaugural fundraising event.

“Laura is a collaborative leader who is passionate about connecting communities, donors and stakeholders through impactful storytelling and strategic engagement,” Clark said. “We are thrilled to welcome her back to the BAAF.”

Alpert brings nearly three decades of nonprofit leadership experience in Greater Boston and New York’s Capital Region. Since becoming an executive leader in 2007, she has helped organizations expand their visibility and operations while raising more than $150 million in philanthropic support.

Alpert earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Brandeis University and a master’s degree in nonprofit management from Brandeis’ Heller School for Social Policy and Management.

She has served on the Heller Alumni Association Board since 2022, became co-vice president in 2025 and recently joined Brandeis University’s Alumni Association Board. In 2023, she also served as an advisory member for the Women in Leadership Program at the University of Vermont’s Grossman School of Business.

The Boston Arts Academy was founded in 1998 by Linda Nathan and Carmen Torres, who served as its inaugural Headmaster and Assistant Headmaster, respectively. The free and public institution offers programs in visual arts, music, dancing, and theatre. In September 2022, the BAA community entered its new $125 million, 153,500 square foot facility on Ipswich Street. The BAA Foundation nonprofit was established one year after the school to serve as its primary fundraiser.
