Brookline CEO's Domestic Violence Charge Dismissed By Judge: Report

The man was first arrested at his home in May.

BROOKLINE, MA — A domestic violence charge against the CEO of a major Massachusetts technology company has been dismissed, according to a report from Brookline.News.

Brookline District Court Judge Debra Shopteese dismissed the assault and battery on a family or household member charge against Markley Group CEO Jeffrey Markley without objection from prosecutors. The charge stemmed from an alleged incident at Markley's Chestnut Hill home in May.

Markley's attorney reportedly argued the case could not proceed because Markley's wife invoked her marital privilege and prosecutors did not have sufficient evidence to move forward without her testimony. The defense motion stated that the prosecution's evidence primarily consisted of the wife's interview with Brookline police and that no additional evidence would support the case without her cooperation.

Markley was arrested in late May after police responded to the couple's home on Fernwood Road. According to a police report, Markley's wife initially told officers that he shoved her from behind during an argument, causing injuries to her neck and shoulder.

Markley's wife disputed the allegations through her attorney, describing the incident as a marital disagreement during a stressful period after the birth of the couple's child and stating there had been no violence or criminal activity.
