Brookline Police's National Night Out Returning With K-9 Demo, Touch-A-Truck

BROOKLINE, MA — The police department is inviting residents to its annual National Night Out celebration next month, with family activities, public safety demonstrations and opportunities to meet local officers and community organizations.

The three-hour event is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 5 p.m. at the Lynch Recreation Center on 599 Brookline Ave.

The department's largest community event of the year will feature bounce houses, a bike rodeo, obstacle courses, a police K-9 demonstration, touch-a-truck displays, carnival games, entertainment, food and ice cream.

Residents will also have the opportunity to connect with a variety of local organizations and agencies, including Brookline Public Schools Food Services, the Brookline Community Outdoor Pool, the Disabled Persons Protection Commission, The Second Step, Brookline Public Health and Human Services, the League of Women Voters of Brookline, Cops for Kids with Cancer, TONGWOOD Art Center, Safe Routes to School Brookline, AT&T FirstNet, Ballin & Associates LLC and Macy Lee for Norfolk County District Attorney.

Brookline police have hosted National Night Out since 2022 as part of the nationwide initiative that encourages partnerships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. The department says the annual event provides residents with an opportunity to interact with officers outside of emergencies while learning about local organizations and public safety resources.

National Night Out is held on the first Tuesday in August in communities across the country. The campaign was established in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch and is designed to strengthen police-community relationships, promote neighborhood involvement and support crime prevention efforts.
