📰 News we're reading

1. 'Scary but fun': Four incoming ninth graders talk about making the leap to BHS (brookline.news) — Several Brookline eighth graders are days away from starting at Brookline High School, trading tight-knit K–8 communities like Lawrence, Driscoll, Hayes, and Lincoln for a campus of about 2,000 students. They describe feeling both nervous and excited about getting lost, heavier workloads, and being the youngest again, but also look forward to new electives, sports, arts opportunities, and a wider circle of friends.

2. Private equity bought his Brookline wine shop. Then he took it back. (brookline.news) — A beloved Brookline Village wine and gourmet shop, Sorriso Market, is reopening this week in its original space after the owner regained the business from a bankrupt private equity firm. Owner and sommelier Nick Lisotto is reshaping the store into a community hub, with frequent wine and balsamic tastings, art shows, and future pasta-making workshops aimed at reconnecting with Brookline neighbors.

3. Election results: Markey and Auchincloss cruise; Perkins wins Brookline but DA race hangs in balance (brookline.news) — Brookline voters turned out just over 10,000 strong in Tuesday's primary, backing Djuna Perkins for Norfolk DA, Ed Markey for Senate, and Jake Auchincloss for Congress, among others. These are unofficial Brookline-only tallies, so final winners depend on results from the rest of Norfolk County and the wider districts, but they show where your neighbors stand heading into November.

4. Healthcare regulators pass on extensive review of two equity deals (wwlp.com) — State regulators have decided not to conduct an in-depth cost and market review of the sale of Bournewood Hospital in Brookline to equity investor GWW Holdings, allowing the deal to move forward. Hospital leaders say the new owner could fund upgrades and stabilize finances after declining reimbursements and referrals, potentially shaping how behavioral health services are delivered to Brookline-area patients.
