BROOKLINE, Mass. – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts (BBBSEM), one of the nation’s leading one-to-one youth mentoring programs and New England’s largest Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliate, is pleased to welcome Sandy Edgerley, Co-Founder and Owner of The Quin House and Hexagon Properties LLC, to the nonprofit’s Board of Directors.

Edgerley, 59, of Brookline, brings nearly two decades of luxury real estate development, consulting and entrepreneurial experience. She founded real estate development firm, Hexagon Properties, with a mission to create beautiful and luxurious homes and spaces. Her signature blend of design and luxury services creates stunning residences and home-away-from-home experiences. Her portfolio includes beautiful properties in Aspen and Boston. Her latest passion project is The Quin, a social club that melds community-building and design to create a unique and collective experience.

Growing up, Edgerley’s biggest mentors were her parents, who both immigrated to the United States in search of the American dream. An only child, she was taught at an early age that an investment in education was a pathway to success. A longtime Boston philanthropist, Edgerley supports numerous nonprofit organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club of Boston, City Year, Harvard University, Horizons for Homeless Children, Massachusetts General Hospital, Scholar Athletes, The Boston Foundation, United Way of Massachusetts Bay, and Youth Villages. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Harvard University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. For the past 10 years, she has generously given numerous financial contributions to BBBSEM.

“I believe mentorship is a key to help young people achieve and overcome adverse life situations,” says Edgerley, a mother of four. “I sat on the boards for multiple nonprofits and am excited to bring this experience to help further Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts’ work and mission.”

BBBSEM Board of Directors commit to serving the organization over the course of two years. As a member, Edgerley will help to advance the agency’s mission, service to children and impact. As a group, the Board establishes Agency policy and sets strategic goals, as well as provides leadership and counsel to staff for specifically identified strategic initiatives. Board members serve as enthusiastic goodwill ambassadors and actively advocate on behalf of the nonprofit.

“Sandy is a force – I have known her for many years, and it is not lost on anyone her immediate impact on every organization for which she lends her time,” says Mark O’Donnell, President and CEO of BBBSEM. “Coming out of the past 18 months, Sandy joined this Board because the youth in our community need this mission more than ever and she wanted to help place us in the best position to do just that. Her extensive background in youth development and youth serving organizations will prove to be essential for our agency in the coming years. We are all thrilled to welcome Sandy and the value she brings to our work serving as many families as possible.”

As part of the agency’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion Roadmap, launched in January 2021, BBBSEM is focused on bridging differences, increasing representation from and amplifying the voices of underrepresented groups. Special focus has been put on increasing representation among staff, board members, Bigs, and corporate and community partners so as to highlight the growing diversity of the communities the nonprofit serves.
