Boy's Cross-Country Takes Connecticut Meet

Runners win Hartford International by 1 point.

The Brookline boy's cross-country team took its talents outside of the comforts of Massachusetts and still took home a team victory over the weekend.

The Warriors competed in the Hartford International at Riverfront Park in Connecticut and squeaked out a one-point victory by claiming 44 overall team points. Xavier of Connecticut came in second with a team score of 45.

This was the first year that Brookline has entered the tournament, which showcased five teams from around New England in its fourth year of existence, and Chernet Sisay claimed the top spot for the afternoon.

Sisay finished with a time of 15:43.6, and head coach Michael Glennon said that he was pacing three Xavier runners all afternoon.

"It was a good first effort racing in an invitational for the season," Glennon said in an email after the weekend.

Brookline also got solid contributions up and down the lineup to claim the victory. Mark Perry, Romey Skjlar and Christian Sampson ran in a group to capture a bulk of points for the team. Glennon said the trio ran the first mile in a time of 5:04 and they also stayed together through mile 2 with a time of 10:27.

Will Jackson, Andy Triedman and Mike Katzeff also formed a group and finished in a wave behind the first threesome to come in together and finish strong with a handful of key points for the team.
