Brides, Bands and Budget Fun at Frugal Family!

How much arts and music can we pack into a Frugal Family Summer? We're blowing your budgeting minds with great deals this week! We're also helping out the brides and grooms – to-be with an amazing Frugal find at Fenway!

Deal: We at Frugal Family have always known how many amazing musical artists in and work in Jamaica Plain. But now, for the first time ever, this talented town will be getting its very own music festival!  The amazing will take place on August 20, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and there will be over 12 bands rocking the scene. The event is free and there will be food available for purchase.  All proceeds from the food will go to support the Boys and Girls Club of Boston. Spend a delightful and delicious, frugal day at Jamaica Pond, celebrating these rising stars and staples of the music community.
Good Through: This event will take place on August 20, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Deal: There’s music in the air!  Or there will be if you happen to come enjoy the , located on the corner of Revere Street and Roanoke Avenue in Jamaica Plain.  This great organization will present “Viennese Delight,” an operetta showcase featuring Janus Opera Productions. Music will include selections composed by by Johann Strauss Jr., Franz Lehar and Rudolf Sieczyński. Tickets are $10 dollars at the door and are worth every penny as you enjoy the beautiful songs and incredible acoustics of the church.

Deal: Ok, Frugal Family.  Every so often we must break out of our comfort zone (or zipcodes!) in order to get an amazingly frugal deal.  This week, we are either hopping on a train or a bus and we’re heading to nearby Fenway Park for the Bridal Festival. The festival will be on September 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature wedding professionals from around New England. Find your frugal florist, frugal tux place, frugal photog! You can also enter to win a wedding ceremony at Fenway Park! Admission is only $15 per person, so don that Red Sox tee and go plan your frugal wedding day!
Good Through:  The festival will be on September 25, beginning at 10 a.m.

 

Junk Puppets!

Deal: As the old saying goes, “One Frugal Family member’s trash is another Frugal Family member’s treasure.”  And that addage is being put to practice at , located at 32 Station Street in Brookline with “Junk Puppets!”  On August 6 at 10:30 a.m., join in the fun and turn recylable materials into cool puppets.  They’ll have plenty of materials on-hand, but participants are welcomed to bring more. The artist in residence will help with the construction of puppets and then give a quick crash course into how to make a puppet come to life. Admission fee is $10 per child and $15 per adult. 
Good Through:  The class takes place on August 6 at 10:30 a.m.

 

Deal: After a long morning at the pond, or after participating in a grueling beach body boot camp, perhaps it’s time for the Frugal Adults to take an artistic break and enjoy a little bit of quiet artistic inspiration. Visit the  at 8 Evans Road in Brookline and witness the history of paper in all its creativity.  Admission is free, and the museum is open on Mondays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. or you can make an appointment to take a tour. Fun fact: the carriage house where the museum is located was once owned by the creator of Moxie!
